This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to the Institute, 36 world leaders arrived at the summit in Kazan. Among them are UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Taliban Minister of Trade and Industry Nuruddin Azizi, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On the sidelines of the summit, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has already met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Modi reiterated the need to find a peaceful solution to Russia's war against Ukraine “as soon as possible” and confirmed India's role as a potential mediator.

“Russia is likely to use the BRICS summit as an opportunity to demonstrate its efforts to strengthen global ties with non-Western powers and possibly conclude agreements and create trade mechanisms through which it can support its military efforts in Ukraine while mitigating the effects of Western sanctions,” the Institute's report says.
