The US announces a new package of sanctions against Russia
The administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia. They will be aimed at restricting military goods.
This was stated by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Bloomberg.
“The United States will unveil tough new sanctions aimed at those who contribute to the Kremlin's military machine, including intermediaries in third countries that supply Russia with critical resources for its army,” Yellen said.
According to her, the sanctions will be announced next week. They will be the latest in a series of measures aimed at combating the trade in critical technologies used by the Russian military during the invasion of Ukraine.
She noted that the export of most of these dual-use goods directly to Russia is currently prohibited, but Russians have begun to buy them from third countries. In particular, supplies are made through India, Malaysia and Thailand.
According to the publication, the sanctions will target intermediaries in countries of concern. The US will also take additional measures aimed at the Russian energy sector and banks.
