Lithuania offers to send EU troops to Ukraine

Oct 22, 2024

It's time for European countries to reconsider French President Emmanuel Macron's idea of deploying troops to Ukraine. The idea is becoming more relevant as thousands of North Korean soldiers may soon join Russia in the war.

This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, RBC-Ukraine reports citing his interview with Politico.

“If the information that Russian punitive units are equipped with North Korean ammunition and military personnel is confirmed, we will have to return to 'boots on the ground' and other ideas proposed by Macron,” he said.

The French president put forward this proposal in February, but it was immediately rejected by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who said that no European or NATO troops would be deployed in Ukraine.

“Unfortunately, we are once again lagging behind and acting passively, but I believe in our joint ability to take all the necessary proactive steps to put President Macron's ideas into action,” Landsbergis added.
