Ann Applebaum calls to arm Ukraine
American journalist and historian Anne Applebaum, while receiving the prestigious German Book Trade Peace Prize, called for supporting Ukraine with weapons to achieve Russia's military defeat.

According to observers, many in Germany have doubts about supplying weapons to Ukraine because they support the idea of pacifism after Hitler's German aggression during World War II. They worry that arming Ukraine could lead to the spread of war beyond Ukraine's borders to the rest of Europe.
“Some are even calling for peace, solemnly referring to the 'lessons of German history,'” Applebaum said. - “As I am here today accepting the Peace Prize, (it) seems to me an appropriate moment to point out that the phrase ‘I want peace’ is not always a moral argument.”
