He called for remembering that Turkey is “a very important ally in NATO” and has one of the best equipped armed forces in the Alliance, and also makes a significant contribution to allied operations.

According to Rutte, it is obvious that there will be debates “about certain issues” in the Alliance, which consists of 32 democratic countries.

“We know that Turkey also cooperates with some of the BRICS partners. They have a sovereign right to do so, which can sometimes lead to debates at the bilateral level or within NATO,” Rutte said.

The Secretary General assured that the North Atlantic Alliance is “popular in Turkey” and Turkey is “popular in NATO”.
