Georgia's ruling party is offended by Zelensky

Jul 4, 2023

The chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, called offensive the indignation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the condition of imprisoned former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, as well as the request for the Georgian ambassador to return to Tbilisi.

This was reported by Pervyi Kanal.

According to him, "Zelensky's step towards Saakashvili is offensive," but at the same time, Kobakhidze emphasized, Tbilisi wants to "remain in a mode of friendship" with the Ukrainian authorities, "even if unilaterally, because this country is at war".

At the same time, the leader of Georgia's ruling party added, he does not want to delve into this topic, as "it concerns the president of a country at war."

"But in general, this position of the authorities is offensive to us. It was insulting in itself that, as our opponents themselves admitted, specific high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian government were involved in sending Saakashvili to Georgia, and today, when the same government is demanding Saakashvili's return to Ukraine, this, of course, contains signs of insult," Kobakhidze said.
