The downing of the Russian Tu-22M3 military aircraft was the first time that the Ukrainian air defense system shot down a strategic bomber.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Defense of Britain reported this on the X social network with reference to intelligence data.

UK intelligence said that reports of the use of a S-200 missile to shoot down a Tu-22M3 are almost certainly true, and that this was another successful Ukrainian attack on the Russian Air Force.

Experts added that a similar system was probably used to shoot down the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft on February 23 of this year.

"This is the first case of a strategic bomber being shot down by air defense systems of Ukraine. It is likely that Russia has lost at least 100 warplanes to date," British intelligence analysts concluded.
