Iran wants talks with US on a nuclear deal

Jul 9, 2024

Iran is keeping diplomatic channels open for talks with the United States on the resumption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the lifting of sanctions against Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Qanani said.

"Our diplomatic channels are open in various ways," Kanani said.

It is noted that indirect talks between Tehran and Washington have already taken place. The details of the talks will be announced if necessary, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

Qanani emphasized that Tehran is now "in a good position for future negotiations," he said, thanks to the foundation laid by former Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who died in May 2024.

In fact, it is unlikely that Raisi wanted negotiations, it was just a diplomatic curtsy... But the new president may be interested in negotiations. This could be beneficial for Ukraine, as the United States will be free to include Iran's refusal to help Russia in the war as an option in the agreement.
