It is unrealistic to bring Putin to the negotiating table now. He can only make concessions after losing Crimea, which is of sacred importance to Russians.
Ukrainian diplomat and former Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
“If there were Martians sitting across from me, I would rather negotiate with them than with Russians. Because they are absolutely amazing people,” he said.
So far, the former minister says, he sees no chance of getting the Kremlin to the negotiating table.
“First, Russia needs to lose Crimea. And, by the way, many Western military officers of a really high strategic level of thinking have long been telling our military that we need to start with Crimea. We need to take Crimea away from Russia,” Ohryzko said.-
According to him, it is something sacred for Russia and Putin personally. He leads the whole history from there, he leads his succession from there.
“I don't know, maybe he is even, in my opinion, the heir to the Roman emperors. Next time we will hear something from him, he has to move forward. And if Crimea falls for him, it means that his image as a winner falls, and he is a macho man, a man who should win everywhere,” Ohryzko is sure.-
