Kyiv fears complications in relations with the IMF after Trump's election

Nov 12, 2024

The IMF's $15.6 billion program with Ukraine is scheduled for 2023-2027. If all previous revisions of the program went without serious problems, further cooperation may become somewhat more complicated.

Several government sources told RBC-Ukraine about this.

“We have clear signals that it will become more difficult,” said one of the interlocutors. “The IMF may become more cautious in working with Ukraine,” another source said.

The fears are related to the coming to power of the new US President Donald Trump, who is quite skeptical about supporting Ukraine. The United States is the largest shareholder in the Fund, holding almost 17% of the votes, which allows it to block decisions of the board of directors.
