The desire of the winner of the US presidential election, Donald Trump, to put “America first” and his continued support for Ukraine during the war are actually the same thing. No one in Trump's team wants Russia to win.
This was stated by Andrew Mack, advisor to the President of Ukraine, head of the Washington office of the law firm Asters, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing his speech.
This year's forum, organized by the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and The Jerusalem Post, is dedicated to the confrontation between Russia, Iran and North Korea and the issue of eliminating the threat of rising anti-Semitism around the world.
“I know that President Trump is personally very committed to helping Ukraine end this war on terms that will allow Ukraine to achieve a lasting and sustainable peace. There is a lively debate going on right now and I think we will learn more in the coming weeks about what the specific policy will be,” Mack said.
In his view, the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was one of only three foreign leaders to meet with Trump in September, out of more than a hundred political leaders who wanted to, shows that he and the Ukrainian side have a very good relationship.
Despite Putin's desire to dictate and control Ukraine's foreign policy, Mack is confident that with proper support from the West, Ukraine will be able to achieve a just and sustainable peace.
