Norway plans to provide Ukraine with more NASAMS

Feb 9, 2024

The Norwegian government has proposed to the parliament to order more launchers and fire control centers for NASAMS air defense systems from the manufacturer to transfer them, in particular, to Ukraine.

The Norwegian government announced this on February 9 on its website, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

"The government proposes to the Norwegian parliament to order ten more launchers and four more fire control centers for the NASAMS air defense system from Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace (KDA). This is in addition to the purchase of equipment that has already been transferred to Ukraine," the statement said.

The order's investment will amount to NOK 3.45 billion, or more than EUR 300 million.

"The Norwegian NASAMS system saves the lives of Ukrainians and prevents the destruction of buildings and infrastructure. Russian missile and drone attacks are widespread and brutal, so air defense is absolutely crucial for Ukraine," commented Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.

At the same time, the minister is concerned that Norway should acquire air defense equipment for its own defense as soon as possible.

It has not been specified how much equipment from the new order can be delivered to Ukraine.
