Pentagon confirms deployment of DPRK soldiers in Kursk region

Nov 6, 2024

At least 10,000 North Korean troops were spotted in the Kursk region. However, there is no confirmation that they have already taken part in hostilities.

This was stated by US Department of Defense spokesman Pat Ryder, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing a briefing at the Pentagon on November 5.

According to him, as a result of the Pentagon's reassessment of new data, the overall assessment of the presence of DPRK troops in Russia may be slightly higher.

“We believe that the total number of DPRK forces in Russia may be closer to about 11,000 to 12,000, with about 10,000 - at least 10,000 - now in the Kursk region,” Ryder said.

The department is familiar with press reports that the North Korean military is allegedly ready to take part in hostilities, but the Pentagon has not yet confirmed them.

According to Ryder, the DPRK forces are “receiving Russian uniforms and Russian equipment” and are being sent to the Kursk region, where they will “provide some capacity.”

“All indications are that they will provide some type of combat or combat support capability,” the Pentagon spokesman said.

However, he did not say whether the North Korean forces were deployed in Russia as part of Russia's own units or as independent units.
