Latvia is ready to take the necessary measures, including closing its borders with Russia and Belarus, in the event of possible hybrid attacks.
According to Yevropeiska Pravda, this was stated by Latvian President Edgards Rinkēvičs at a meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Rinkēvičs emphasized that Latvia would be ready to close the border with Russia and Belarus in the event of a massive influx of migrants, the Latvian president's press service said after the meeting, without giving any other details.
The meeting also discussed Germany's involvement in ensuring the security of the region, as well as the potential risks of a hybrid threat on the border of NATO territory.
"Germany is an indispensable member of Euro-Atlantic security and I highly appreciate its contribution to the security of the Baltic region. I would like to thank the German Armed Forces for their presence in the Baltic States and their plans to increase their military contingent," Rinkēvičs said.
