Russia ignores most requests for Ukrainian prisoners - Lubinets

Nov 7, 2024

Russia ignores most requests for information about the whereabouts of Ukrainian prisoners. Therefore, Ukraine is looking for third countries that are willing to help in this matter.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Telegram of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

According to him, the Ombudsman's Office sends inquiries to Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova, asking the families of missing persons to inform them whether the whereabouts of their relatives are known.

However, Russia rarely provides information on the detention of Ukrainian citizens under its control.

“The Russian Federation simply ignores a number of initiatives: it does not create mixed medical commissions, is not interested in the return of citizens of both countries under the terms of the “I want to see my own” project, and does not provide information on places where Ukrainians (both prisoners of war and civilians) are visited,” Lubinets said.

The Ombudsman also emphasized that Ukraine continues to search for third countries that are ready to join the implementation of the fourth point of the peace formula and show results - to return home as many Ukrainians as possible who are still illegally detained by Russia.

He added that as of today, Ukraine has managed to return 168 civilians from Russian captivity.
