Scholz explained why he keeps calling Putin

Jun 8, 2022
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that his phone conversations with Vladimir Putin have one purpose - to remind the Russian president that the war he has unleashed will not succeed.

Scholz said this on Tuesday during a visit to Lithuania, citing Zeit.
According to the German chancellor, his phone conversations with Putin are important so that Putin understands again and again that his strategy of attacking Ukraine - in particular, the annexation of Ukrainian territory - will not work.
Furthermore, Scholz once again stressed that Russia must not win the war with Ukraine, so it is important for Putin to say that neither Ukraine nor its allies will accept a "forced peace.

In recent weeks, the German chancellor has been criticized for continuing to communicate with the Russian president despite the Russian army's numerous war crimes in Ukraine.
