The United States of America has a practical interest in the successful transfer of Bulgarian nuclear reactors to Ukraine to complete two unfinished units of Khmelnytsky NPP No. 3 and No. 4.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Atlantic Council.
“The fact that Westinghouse is involved in fuel production and reactor construction in both Ukraine and Bulgaria is an important point of contact for both countries and explains the US interest in the successful transfer of Bulgaria's surplus nuclear equipment to Ukraine,” the article says.
The Americans point out that the transfer of Bulgaria's nuclear equipment to Ukraine will help solve Kyiv's electricity needs, while dealing a serious blow to Russia's strategy both in Ukraine and in the Balkans.
“Strengthening Ukraine's nuclear capabilities will improve the country's economic prospects and prepare it to eventually replace Russia as a key energy supplier for Europe in the post-war period. This makes Ukraine's acquisition of Bulgarian nuclear equipment an important opportunity for the West that should not be missed,” the article says.-
Given that the purchase and transfer of equipment can contribute to Europe's long-term energy security, European funds aimed at economic reconstruction of the warring country can be used for this purpose.
The United States can also support Europeans in this matter by allocating part of its aid to Ukraine, the Atlantic Council article notes.
