The war in Ukraine can be quickly ended if the future US administration under Donald Trump is focused on a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
This was stated by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Reuters.
He emphasized that dialogue and agreements are needed to end the war, not weapons and conflicts.
“We can easily end this war if we see the Trump administration approaching this issue from a solution. More dialog, diplomacy, and agreements will open the door to peace, not weapons, bombs, and conflicts,” Erdogan said.
He expressed confidence that more attention to diplomacy could open the door to peace. The Turkish leader added that the efforts of Western countries led by the United States to end the war could significantly accelerate the achievement of peace.
Trump has previously stated that if elected, he would be able to achieve peace in Ukraine within 24 hours, but did not specify how this complex conflict, which has become the largest land war in Europe since World War II, would be resolved.
Turkey, while supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and condemning Russia's actions, does not support Western sanctions against Moscow. At the same time, Turkey maintains important partnerships with Russia in the fields of energy, tourism, and defense.
Since March, Turkey has been actively calling for negotiations and offering its mediation. Erdogan noted that his country has brought both sides to the negotiating table more than once and is ready to do so again.
