Trump discusses DPRK troops' role in war with South Korean president

Donald Trump, the 47th President-elect of the United States, had a telephone conversation with South Korean President Yun Suk-yol. The parties, in particular, touched upon the deployment of DPRK troops in Russia to help in the war against Ukraine.

This was stated by Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy National Security Advisor to the President of South Korea, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Yonhap News Agency.

During the conversation, Yol congratulated Trump on his “convincing victory” in the presidential election. They discussed ties between the two countries in the areas of security, economy, and global issues.

According to the South Korean president's spokesman, Trump said that the United States is seeking to cooperate with South Korea in the shipbuilding industry, including naval shipbuilding, exports, repair and maintenance.

According to the South Korean official, Yoon and Trump discussed “the situation in North Korea, including recent nuclear developments, missile launches, and the deployment of troops in Russia.” In addition, the parties “expressed concern over these security issues and the urgency of the situation in Ukraine.”

The Office of the South Korean leader noted that they also agreed to hold a personal meeting in the near future.

“They shared the view that they need to discuss these issues in person and agreed to meet as soon as possible when they can set a date and place,” said Yun's deputy national security adviser.
