Trump's victory is not the worst case scenario for Ukraine

Republican candidate Donald Trump won the US presidential election at a difficult time. However, his victory is not the worst case scenario for Ukraine.

This was stated by Volodymyr Fesenko, Chairman of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies, in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine.

“It would be much worse if the United States plunged into a political crisis. This is a big risk for the whole world, for international security. It is also a chance for Putin and China, not to mention Iran and North Korea. We could lose American aid for an indefinite period of time,” Fesenko explained.

In view of this, according to the political scientist, Trump's victory is not the worst case scenario. Moreover, he explained that Kamala Harris's victory, given that the Republican Party has won a majority in the Senate and is close to success in the House of Representatives, would indeed be a problematic scenario.

“In this case, last year's history would repeat itself. And again, we could lose aid for a while,” the political scientist noted.

As for the support, Fesenko noted that it is possible to predict that Trump will promote a change in the format.

“It is highly likely that financial and budgetary assistance will stop. This is not only his position, but also that of many Republicans. Trump counts money and there will be no free aid. There will be only military aid in the form of a loan/land-lease. Financial issues will be resolved by the new Congress. It is not certain that they will decide quickly, but perhaps in early December we will learn about new ideas and proposals,” Fesenko added.
