Tusk: EU to help finance Poland's border security

Jun 18, 2024

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that EU leaders agreed on the need to finance security measures on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Tusk's statement was cited by Reuters.

Poland's border with Belarus has become a hot spot since the regime of Alexander Lukashenko began bringing illegal migrants there in 2021.

Tusk said that the European leaders he spoke with at an informal summit in Brussels agreed that securing the EU's eastern border is a common task and that this also applies to funding.

"Today I can assure you that Europe will pay for our security because our security at the border is Europe's security," he said.
