United States President Joe Biden has extended the state of emergency for another year in connection with the hostage-taking and illegal detention of citizens abroad.
This was reported by the White House, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
The US President extended the state of emergency, which he declared by Executive Order 14078, enabling the US leader to impose sanctions on Iran and Russia, where US citizens are illegally held hostage.
According to Biden, hostage-taking and illegal detention of U.S. citizens are heinous acts that undermine the rule of law.
"Terrorist organizations, criminal groups, and other criminals who take hostages for financial, political, or other gain, as well as foreign states that engage in unlawful detention, including for the purpose of political pressure or to obtain concessions from the United States, threaten the integrity of the international political system and the safety of American citizens and others abroad," he stressed.
