According to Reuters, the photo of the submarine was published by Taiwanese media. It is probably a carrier of Jin-class missiles. Journalists add that nuclear submarines can operate underwater for many months and rarely surface.

The agency's source said that the submarine was probably returning to its port of Qingdao from the South China Sea. Also, according to Reuters, the incident could have been caused by a malfunction that forced the boat to surface.

The journalists clarified that ballistic missile submarines are not designed to hit ships, but to launch ballistic missiles at land targets.
