Azerbaijan demands Armenia to withdraw troops from Karabakh

Sep 19, 2023

Azerbaijan says that Armenia must withdraw its troops from Nagorno-Karabakh, as this is "the only way to peace" in the region.

This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry claims that the "local anti-terrorist measures" in Nagorno-Karabakh are a response to "a series of large-scale military provocations and terrorist attacks" by Armenian forces.

"The measures are aimed at illegal military formations and military infrastructure. The Azerbaijani side in no way targeted civilians. In particular, it is necessary for the Armenian civilian population to stay away from military targets," the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry says that the presence of the Armenian armed forces in Karabakh "poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability."

"The only way to achieve peace and stability in the region is to unconditionally and completely withdraw the Armenian armed forces from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan," the statement said.
