US President Joe Biden has authorized the delivery of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine. This step will strengthen Kyiv's defense capabilities against the advancing Russian troops.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Washington Post.
The decision follows a recent White House authorization that allowed Ukraine to use US long-range ATACMS missiles in Russia.
The publication notes that the delivery of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine is also potentially controversial. In particular, more than 160 countries have signed an international treaty that prohibits their use, as these weapons can cause long-term damage to civilians.
However, Kyiv has been seeking these supplies ever since Russia launched a full-scale invasion and also placed anti-personnel mines on the front lines to hinder Ukraine's efforts to regain its territory.
