On December 19, EU leaders will hold the first summit after the change of leadership of European institutions. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been invited.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an invitation letter from European Council President Antonio Costa to EU leaders.
This is the first summit of EU leaders convened by Costa after he took over the European Council in early December. According to him, the discussion will focus on the situation in Ukraine.
“I have just returned from a visit to Kyiv, on the first day of my mandate. We must stay with Ukraine as long as it takes and do everything possible to ensure that the Russian invasion is defeated and international law prevails,” the new president of the European Council said.
In his opinion, the December meeting of the European Council is an important opportunity to send a unified and unambiguous message of support to Ukraine for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.
Costa said he has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the December 19 summit to share with EU leaders the latest developments and his views on how Europe can best support Ukraine.
According to Kossuth, the summit will also focus on discussing the EU's place in the world and the results of Hungary's presidency of the Council.
The day before the summit, on December 18, the EU-Western Balkans summit will take place.
