Czech Republic appoints new ambassador to Russia after three-year pause

The Czech Republic has appointed a new ambassador to Moscow. Daniel Kostovál has been appointed.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the Czech Foreign Ministry.

According to the Czech Foreign Ministry, the new ambassador will begin work in the first months of next year. He has already received an agrimand from Russia.

“The key countries that are strategic allies of the Czech Republic - the UK, France, Germany, Poland, and the US - have ambassadors in Russia. I wish the ambassador much strength in this difficult mission of promoting Czech interests,” Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said.

Daniel Kostovál joined the Czech Foreign Ministry in 1996, serving as Director of the Departments of Security Policy, North and Eastern Europe, and Director General for Non-European Countries. From 1998 to 2002, he served at the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to NATO, and from 2003 to 2006 at the Czech Embassy in Moscow. From 2009 to 2011, he served at the Czech Embassy in Washington, DC.

In 2013, Mr. Kostovál was appointed First Deputy Minister of Defense, where he was responsible for strategy, foreign relations and planning until 2018, and later for armaments and procurement.
