It is noted that Deputy Chief of U.S. Diplomacy Anthony Blinken will meet with a number of high-ranking South Korean officials in Seoul.

At this meeting, the parties will discuss “bilateral cooperation to promote the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region, as well as common regional and global challenges, including our shared concerns about North Korea's provocations on the Korean Peninsula.”

In Seoul, Campbell will also take part in a trilateral meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of the United States, South Korea, and Japan.

The U.S. State Department said that the meeting is intended to “build on the discussions” on trilateral cooperation that took place during their first meeting in Washington in May.

“The dialogue will focus on a range of regional and global challenges, including threats from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the importance of upholding international law in the South China Sea, and other topics related to regional and global peace and security,” the US department said.

In addition, the US Deputy Secretary of State will visit Japan to discuss with Japanese officials “joint efforts to counter regional security threats, as well as cooperation on joint production of defense technologies that will further strengthen deterrence capabilities in the region.”

The US State Department clarified that the official's visit to Japan and South Korea is scheduled for October 15-17.
