Poland does not see EU accession as a matter of survival for Ukraine

Oct 16, 2024

Joining the European Union is supposedly not a vital issue for Ukraine. Therefore, Warsaw can set its own conditions for Kyiv.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an interview with Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh for Interia.

He said that discussing the settlement of the Volyn issue in the context of Ukraine's accession to the European Union is supposedly the “most honest approach” imaginable.

The official reminded that this issue is not a condition for providing military or humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as people's lives are at stake. In this way, Warsaw can also influence the fact that Russia is losing the war.

“Joining the EU is not a “to be” or “not to be” for Ukraine, it is an opportunity for development, for higher GDP growth, it is their chance. We can set conditions for such development and, in addition to the conditions set by the EU, we can set our own ethical and historical conditions regarding Volyn,” the minister added.

He also clarified that the issue of exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy should be settled between Ukraine and Poland. The work should be carried out at the level of state institutions.
