The German government has blocked the sale of new arms to Israel. The reason was concerns about the possible use of weapons against the civilian population.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Politico.

According to the publication, the decision to export weapons in Germany is made by the Federal Security Council, which consists of senior government officials.

However, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock abstained from approving the arms exports to Israel, demanding assurances that it would not use German weapons to attack civilians.

“The supply of arms to Israel is a compliance with international humanitarian law. The reason for demanding such an obligation is that otherwise the German administrative court could put an end to it,” an informed source told Politico.

The source reminded that several lawsuits have already been filed against the German government demanding to stop arms exports to Israel. They claimed that the exports violate the law, according to which such weapons cannot be used to strike civilian targets.
