Ukraine expects to become a member of the European Union in a shorter period of time than projected. This requires perseverance.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a documentary about the western direction for Ukraine, which was broadcast during a telethon.
The head of state said that when Ukraine received the status of a candidate for EU membership, he had a meeting with all the leaders of the member states. At the time, most of them warned that “it would take 6-8 years from candidacy to negotiations, and 10 years from negotiations to EU membership.”
“We will go through all these stages, I am sure, and we will be in the EU faster than predicted. If we continue to run and be persistent,” the President said.
He drew attention to the fact that Ukraine has voted for a number of laws “that the EU countries have been passing for years” due to disputes and power struggles. And in Ukraine, this stage was “overlooked” and “run through.”
