Aug 5, 2023

Ukraine is unlikely to be able to restore its nuclear status. Not only political reasons but also technological ones prevent it from doing so.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine concerning a statement by Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, during a telethon.

Danilov was asked whether security guarantees for Ukraine could include the presence of nuclear weapons of any kind in our country.

"Regarding the arsenal that was seized from us, let's be realistic - it is hardly possible at all. And not only for political reasons but also for technological ones. This is a very complicated situation. Those intercontinental missiles that were on the territory of our country are a complicated thing," the NSDC Secretary emphasized.

At the same time, he clarified that today there are states that do not directly possess nuclear weapons but are provided with them by NATO member states.

"There are such cases. I can't tell you now whether it will work in our case because it is a complex, responsible, and difficult job," he added.
