Jul 8, 2024

At a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that NATO should not hesitate about Ukraine's membership, as this is the aspiration of the Ukrainian people.

This was reported by RMF FM.

The meeting between the presidents of Poland and Ukraine took place before the NATO summit in Washington this week, which both Duda and Zelensky will attend.

Speaking about Ukraine's membership in the Alliance, Duda noted that obtaining the consent of all NATO members and ratifying the accession protocol is a process that takes time.

The Polish president noted that wherever he goes, he tries to emphasize that the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO can be conditioned by only one thing - "the will of Ukrainian society."

"If the Ukrainian society has the will to belong to the North Atlantic Alliance, then NATO cannot hesitate, and Ukraine should be accepted into NATO," Duda emphasized.

He added that "we have supported these European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Ukrainian society from the very beginning, we have supported them and we will continue to support them in this particular situation that Ukraine is in today."
