Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to present his own proposal to freeze the war in Ukraine during the Group of Twenty (G20) summit. It also includes postponing discussions on joining NATO.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Bloomberg.
As the publication reminds, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula is based on obtaining a clear path to NATO membership, as well as security guarantees in terms of protection before joining.
Erdogan, according to sources, will offer Ukraine to postpone discussions on joining the Alliance for at least 10 years as a concession to dictator Vladimir Putin.
In particular, the Turkish proposal would include the creation of a demilitarized zone in eastern Ukraine, as well as the deployment of international troops and military guarantees for Kyiv as compensation for agreeing to remain outside NATO.
According to unnamed Turkish officials, it would be difficult for Kyiv to accept such a proposal, but it would help ensure a stable ceasefire. At the same time, the plan may appeal to those of Kyiv's allies who are concerned about the risk of direct conflict between NATO and Russia if Ukraine were to join NATO.
