European Parliament calls on NATO to invite Ukraine to join Alliance

Jun 15, 2023

Members of the European Parliament called on NATO countries to fulfill their obligations to Ukraine and invite it to join the Alliance.

This is reported with reference to the press service of the European Parliament.

It is noted that the resolution was approved by 425 votes in favor, 38 against and 42 abstentions. MEPs express hope that "the accession process begins after the end of the war and is completed as quickly as possible".

Thus, until Ukraine gains full membership, the EU and NATO allies should work closely with the state to develop a timeframe for security guarantees to be implemented immediately after the war.

The Parliament emphasizes that Ukraine's integration into NATO and the EU will strengthen regional and global security, as well as ties between Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic community.
