France will try to stop the escalation between Hezbollah and Israel

Jun 14, 2024

The United States and France will work together to intensify efforts to advance a roadmap to "defuse" tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

He said this on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday, June 13, Reuters reports.

It is noted that France and the United States have been working in recent months to try to defuse tensions: Paris has sent written proposals to both sides aimed at stopping the deterioration of exchanges between them on the border between Lebanon and Israel.

"With the United States, we agreed on the principle of a trilateral (contact group), Israel, the United States and France, to move forward on the roadmap that we have proposed, and we will do the same with the Lebanese authorities," Macron said.

Hezbollah, which has ruled out a ceasefire until Israel's ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, said it launched rockets and drones at nine Israeli military targets on June 13 in a coordinated attack.

At the time, a senior French official said that the United States and France needed to urgently step up their efforts in view of the dangerous escalation.
