Germany creates a special unit to counter Russian disinformation
The German authorities have decided to create a special unit to counter Russian disinformation. Bloomberg reports.
The new special unit was created in accordance with Germany's national security strategy, which recognizes Russia as the main threat to German security.
The proposal to create a unit to combat Russian disinformation belongs to three German ministries - the Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Justice.
Initially, the new unit will include 10 special analysts. Later, the number of employees will increase to 20. The group will focus on detecting and debunking disinformation operations on social media, including those sponsored by Russia. The group will also prevent disinformation campaigns and neutralize them before they are launched.
"The threat to our democracy from espionage, sabotage, disinformation, and cyberattacks has reached a new dimension," commented German Interior Minister Nancy Feser on the creation of the task force.
