Indonesia offers unacceptable "peace plan" for Ukraine

Jun 4, 2023

A parade of statements continues from countries whose leaders clearly sympathize with Putin and, unfortunately, are easily willing to sacrifice Ukraine's independence. Moreover, these statements are made despite the risks of the physical destruction of our people by fascist Russia.

For example, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore, proposed his own "peace plan" for Ukraine, which provides for an immediate ceasefire and the creation of a demilitarized zone along the current line of contact.

Yesterday, we recall, pro-Russian statements were again heard from China, which not only again proposed a ceasefire and negotiations, but also called on the West to stop supplying Ukraine with weapons. Unfortunately, the media have no opportunity to ask Beijing the question: what if Russia simply destroys our country when we have nothing to fight with?

Yesterday, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban also made another anti-Ukrainian call, which was immediately responded to by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Returning to the statement by Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. He actually offers a direct option that de facto gives Russia the right to the occupied territories.

"First, immediately cease fire and hostilities. Second, to disengage troops on each side by 15 kilometers from the current front line and create a demilitarized zone, and third, to establish a peacekeeping mission under the auspices of the United Nations to monitor compliance with the ceasefire," he said.

Subianto also proposes to organize and hold referendums in the "disputed territories" with the participation of the UN to "objectively establish the will of the majority of residents of the disputed territories" regarding their vision of their future.

According to him, Indonesia is ready to send its representatives to such a UN peacekeeping mission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to Indonesia's "peace plan" and called on the country to join the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula.

"We appreciate the attention that Indonesia, apparently having drawn conclusions from its own history, pays to the issue of restoring peace in Ukraine," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.

He also reminded that there are no disputed territories between Ukraine and Russia to hold referendums there.

"Russia has seized Crimea, parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as documented in official UN documents. The Russian army is committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in the occupied territories. Russia must withdraw from Ukrainian territories, and Ukraine must restore its territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. There can be no alternative scenarios," the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.

According to him, the ceasefire, disengagement of forces to a 15-kilometer distance, and the creation of a demilitarized zone will not work.

"Lasting peace in Ukraine means liberation of Ukrainian territories from Russian occupation. This is what President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula is aimed at. We invite Indonesia to join its active implementation," Nikolenko summarized.

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo during his working visit to Japan to participate in the G7 summit.
