Israel has previously agreed to a ceasefire in Lebanon and approved the main principles of a joint proposal with the United States.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Haaretz and Ynet.

The proposal includes three stages.

  • A truce, after which Hezbollah will withdraw its forces north of the Litani River.
  • Withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon.
  • Negotiations between Israel and Lebanon on the demarcation of disputed border areas.

Control over the ceasefire will be entrusted to an international body led by the United States.

Israel is waiting for a letter from Washington confirming its right to take military action if Hezbollah violates the ceasefire, even though the Lebanese military and international forces have not acted.

Meanwhile, US mediator Amos Hochstein has warned both sides that he is ready to terminate his mission if they do not agree to the agreement on the table in the near future.
