The Kalmius River, which flows in the Donetsk region, is heavily polluted due to the activities of the Russian invaders. The water situation is particularly critical near the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the National Resistance Center (NRC).
Industrial emissions and household waste are discharged into the Kalmius River, and the water there is heavily polluted by sewage.
The CNR notes that the river has practically turned into a garbage dump due to the criminal mismanagement of the Russian occupiers.
According to the Center, the situation with the water of the Kalmius River is particularly critical near the temporarily occupied Mariupol - it is “toxic, has a yellow-brown color and a pungent unpleasant odor.”
“And this is not surprising, because the Russian occupiers are trying to hide traces of their terrorist activities in the river. It gets to the point where contractors brought to the city destroyed by Kremlin missiles from all regions of Muscovy dump construction waste into the river,” the CNS publication says.
Now the Kalmius channel is almost completely filled up, and the water flow has decreased by 5 times.
The Kalmius River originates on the southern slope of the Donetsk ridge and flows into the Sea of Azov in the city of Mariupol. It flows through the territory of the occupied cities of Donetsk and Mariupol (at the mouth of the river).
In total, the river is almost 210 kilometers long and the water basin covers 5,070 square kilometers.
The SLC also draws attention to the fact that, given the crisis with fresh water in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, such behavior of the invaders towards the Kalmius River only worsens the situation.
