Latvia plans to stop broadcasting media in Russian

The Latvian government plans to stop broadcasting public media in Russian. The innovation may come into force in 2026.

"Latvian public media should stop broadcasting in Russian from January 1, 2026. This is one of the points of the National Security Concept, which was supported by the new government behind closed doors last Tuesday," the article says.
"The previous such document was approved in 2019. And now, in 2022, a new analysis of threats to the state has been conducted. Based on this, this new project was developed and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers this week," said Imant Zakis, deputy director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Department of Sectoral Policy.

According to him, the document has already been sent to the Latvian Saeima and the President's Office. It should be approved by October 1.
