Jun 1, 2023

The first batch of equipment provided by the European Peace Foundation (IEP) for the Moldovan military has arrived in Moldova.

This was reported by the Moldovan TV channel TV8.

This aid package worth 7 million euros includes drones, laptops, explosive ordnance disposal equipment, ultrasound equipment, surgical plasters, and more.

"This is an eloquent proof of the EU's contribution to strengthening Moldova's defense capabilities and increasing its resilience to current challenges," Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi said at a press conference.

According to him, by the end of the year, Moldova will also receive ambulances, demining robots, metal detectors, radars, vehicles, and medical equipment.

The equipment will go to army sappers and medical units.

The European Peace Foundation will also provide €80 million for logistics, communications, and IT equipment.

This assistance will also include the purchase of radar equipment that will expand the ability to monitor the national airspace.

The head of the European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, emphasized that the delivered batch of equipment is only the first step of the EU in strengthening Moldova's security.

"Our support cannot be something abstract. We are handing over the first batch of equipment that will support explosive ordnance disposal. This is just the beginning of our assistance, this is just the first step of our support," Borrell said.
