NATO representative: Putin still thinks time is on his side

Jul 9, 2024

NATO says it is necessary to support Ukraine beyond 2025, as Russian leader Vladimir Putin still thinks that time is on his side.

This was stated by a NATO official on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., according to a Yevropeiska Pravda correspondent.

He noted that Russia is capable of waging war at the current pace for another 3-4 years, although this will have long-term consequences for both its economy and population.

"Vladimir Putin thinks that time is still on his side. He still has momentum and resources and thinks he can wear Ukraine down," the NATO official said.

"We should not underestimate Russia in this regard," he said.

According to the official, the Russians can still compensate for their military losses and demonstrate a desire to cause significant civilian casualties in Ukraine.

"Therefore, we must be ready to support Ukraine after 2025. This is not a conflict that can end soon at any time. It may take years and efforts to prevent Russia from gaining the upper hand.
