Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović-Burić called Russia's undermining of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant criminal and reckless.
She wrote about this on Twitter.
"I condemn Russia's destruction of the dam in Ukraine: it is criminal and reckless," she wrote on Twitter.
On the morning of June 6, the Southern Operational Command reported that the Russian occupiers had blown up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, and later the regional military administration confirmed this information. The head of the Kherson JMA, Oleksandr Prokudin, said that evacuation of the local population from dangerous areas had begun.
According to Prokudin, the water will reach a critical level in five hours.
Police noted that the potential flood zone on the right bank of the Dnipro River includes the villages of Mykolayivka, Olhivka, Lovo, Tyahynyka, Poniativka, Ivanivka, Tokarivka, Prydniprovske, Sadove and part of the city of Kherson - Korabel Island.
