Pentagon chief: US increases presence of its forces in South Korea

The United States continues to increase the deployment of its forces on the Korean Peninsula. Cooperation between Washington and Seoul is expanding.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a statement by Pentagon Chief of Staff Lloyd Austin during a press conference.

The official said that during talks with South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, they agreed to further enhance interoperability and strengthen extended deterrence.

In particular, the United States and South Korea are expanding cooperation on nuclear and strategic planning within the framework of the Nuclear Consultative Group.

“We are increasing the regular deployment of U.S. strategic forces to the Korean Peninsula,” Austin said.
