Poland will not shoot down Russian missiles without NATO decision

Jul 10, 2024

Polish Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh said that the Polish side will not shoot down Russian missiles flying through Ukraine in its direction unless there is a corresponding decision at the NATO level.

He gave this comment to Polish Radio.

Kosiniak-Kamysh noted that Ukraine has long expressed hope for Poland's participation in the protection of its airspace, but Warsaw will not make the relevant decisions alone.

"If the Alliance does not make such decisions, then Poland should in no way make such decisions alone," he added.

The Polish minister added that there is no such consensus in NATO, and pointed to the position of the White House, which has stated that it does not want the conflict to escalate.

"Of course, there are other procedures regarding missiles on the territory of the Republic. Then it is our decision," Kosinyak-Kamysh said.
