Relations between Ukraine and Britain worsened after Starmer took office

Nov 11, 2024

Ukraine has seen its relations with Britain deteriorate since Keir Starmer became prime minister. London has not yet provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with additional long-range Storm Shadow missiles.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Guardian.

The publication reminds that Starmer has not visited Ukraine in 4 months after taking office as prime minister. And Kyiv allegedly believes that his trip will be in vain if he does not commit to provide Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow missiles.

“It makes no sense for him to come as a tourist,” a senior official in the Office of the President of Ukraine told the newspaper.

According to The Guardian, Ukraine's main complaint against the UK is that it has not transferred any additional Storm Shadow missiles from its stockpile.

“This is not happening. Starmer is not giving us long-range weapons. The situation is not the same as it was when Rishi Sunak was prime minister. Relations have become worse,” the unnamed official added.

He added that if Ukraine had received additional Storm Shadow missiles from the UK, it would have been easy to guess. In this case, Ukrainian defenders would use them to strike Russian targets.

It is worth noting that Britain is one of three countries that agreed to help Ukraine with long-range missiles. The Storm Shadow was sent in 2023, but on the condition that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would not attack Russian territory with them.
