Russia says it is withdrawing from dispute with the Netherlands

Jun 17, 2024

On Monday, June 17, Russia announced that it would cease to participate in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) investigation, which was considering the submissions of Australia and the Netherlands against Russia over flight MH17.

This was stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of the aggressor country claims that the ICAO's competence allegedly does not include the investigation of the MH17 crash. However, Russia has agreed to this investigation, hoping for a "professional dialog."

The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the countries of the "collective West" of refusing to take into account the results of the UN International Court of Justice investigation, which rejected the demands to hold Russia responsible for the crash of flight MH17 and the deaths of the people on board.

The agency also noted that ICAO members had already "agreed in advance to the accusations" against Russia by the Netherlands and Australia, which allegedly made the investigation biased.

"In such circumstances, it is impossible to talk about an impartial establishment of facts, let alone a fair decision. The ICAO Board is not the right place to find the truth. It is pointless for us to remain a part of the "performance" organized there," the statement said.
