These countries warn that the Kremlin is "implementing a conspiracy to influence the results of the presidential elections in Moldova in 2024" and "intends to provoke protests in Moldova if the pro-Russian candidate does not win."

It also specifies that Russia is spreading lies about the character and intentions of the current president, Maia Sandu."

It is also clarified that these countries are already working with the Moldovan authorities to impose sanctions on those behind the attempted election interference.

"By uncovering the Kremlin's plot, we are making it clear to Moscow that we stand for free and fair elections and will not tolerate its attempts to interfere and undermine democratic processes," the statement reads.

Moldova will hold presidential elections and a referendum on the country's accession to the EU on October 20.

Earlier, the Moldovan authorities reported that the referendum on the country's accession to the EU would be subject to hybrid attacks by Russia to convince the population not to participate in it.
