Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus are a threat to European security

EU Diplomacy Chief Josep Borrell sees the possible deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus as a threat to European security.

Borrell said this in response to Russian President Putin's announced intention to deploy nuclear weapons to Belarus.

"The deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus would mean an irresponsible escalation and a threat to European security," Borrell said on his Twitter account on Sunday.

He emphasized that Belarus can still stop this, and "it is its choice."

Borrell emphasized that in any case, the EU is ready to respond to the escalation with further sanctions.
